New Degree Press — A Publisher Like No Other

In 2019, I was working as an author, ghostwriter, author coach, and freelance editor. To say I didn’t have a lot of spare time is a gross understatement. During this time, Leila Summers invited me to interview with New Degree Press for the position of marketing and revisions editor. I usually, at this time, just declined interviews without a second thought. However, the job position gave me pause and made me look at the invitation more closely. I had never heard of a combination like that in association with a publishing company.

The more I learned the more I wanted to know about how this all worked. I had a background in the publishing industry, and I knew what it was like to go through traditional, hybrid, and publishing independently.

What sealed the deal for me with NDP was that it is truly none of the above.

While it is recognized as a hybrid publishing company, it gives you so much more than any hybrid I’ve ever published through. NDP is truly the only publishing company that I’ve ever seen invest so much in helping people publish who might otherwise never get published.

NDP invests in the author, not the story, not the salability of it…but the author and their voice. As I learned the ropes of being an MRE, I saw the resources that my fellow editors and the rest of the company tirelessly created for the authors, the innovation that everyone at every level in the company put forth. Processes were and are always changing to make the experience better, to help the authors do more.

As an author coach and freelance editor, I helped authors get their works created while working to capture that author’s unique voice. At NDP, I’ve been able to do so much more than that. I have helped authors open doors after they publish to get that new career, to let their voices be heard, to use their passions to help others, to allow them to do what they love the most, and to support them all the way through their publishing journey — not just through part of it.

The reason I came to NDP was a curiosity for this creature that was not like any publishing house that I had ever known. The reason I stayed was because of the passion and love for authors and the written word that everyone in the company possesses. New Degree Press is truly a unique model that puts the authors first, and who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
